This movie's visuals is in pretty good quality when you take account that this is an old movie. The animation does have a little grain and of course cannot be matched to today's movies' quality but for a movie this old, the quality is pretty good. The animation in this movie has a consistant imagery and background, meaning that it doesn't like change the character's facial style in one scene. also, another great thing about this movie is the eerie consistancy in this movie--all the backdrop and characters and a dull dark tone. The audio of this movie is also relatively good and in the beginning, the Lupin themesong is played,
There are extras in this movie but it is not as good as the extras in some of the other movies such as Dead or Alive. The extras in this movie were Character Profiles and Image Gallery; there is also a 5.1 surround sound, japanese-english tracks, english subtitles and scene selection. Whereas, in the movie Dead or Alive, the extras also included an interview from the creator, Monkey Punch, which was definitely a plus to everything. The Image Gallery isn't that great because they are just screen captures from various parts of the movie, and the character profiles are kind of boring.
The thing that makes any movie great is the storyline and this movie's storyline is superb. The history of this story takes place way back before he started working with Jigen. Lupin went to the "Tarantula" base to close a chapter in his life, which involved his old gun and a gang of murderous criminals with a spider inprinted on their hands. What makes this story even better is the blood thirst and there is some slight nudity so it's not recommended for young children. Inspector Zenigata was shot by these criminals and that's what got Lupin into the scene.
The "island of assassins" isn't any normal island. The island releases sulfuric oxide, which neutralizes the poison inprinted on the hands of the members of the Tarantulas. The tatoos on their hands consist of a poison that if they are out of reach of the gas, they will perish immediately. They carry a small tank of this gas on their missions but it only lasts 24 hours and after that, they perish. Lupin meets Ellen, a member of the Tarantulas, who is trapped and does not want to kill any longer. She introduces Lupin to the Doc of the island and he is also one who wishes not to kill any longer. Together, they devise a plan to destroy the killer satelite that shoots down escapers and intruders, find a cure for the tatoo, and also escape the island with the gold.
The interesting is that none of it is as it appears, which makes this a superb storyline. The Doc isn't really who he appears to be. The guy in charge, Gordeau, isn't the true antagonist of this story. The gold that Zigen and Goemon escapes with is fake. The satelite fails to turn off because the coding has been changed. What's even more appealing is that Lupin is aware of all of this and still goes along with the story, just in order to end this chapter of his life. This is truely a remarkable storyline and I would recommend everyone to watch this movie. The amazing storyline makes up for basically all the other flaws such as the extras.

Comments:
The storyline is extremely good and even though it wasn't as long as the Dead or Alive movie or have extras that are as good, the storyline totally made up for it! There was definitely an excellent twist of plot during the middle and the end. |
