Review
Dead or Alive is the third Lupin theatrical feature to be released in America, with Castle of Cagliostro and Mystery of Mamo being the other two. This is, however, the first threatrical feature to be released by FUNimation. This is not a saga or a show if you are confused by the term threatrical feature, as stated on the box, it is a full-length theatrical movie. The good thing about this movie is that it comes with a bunch of extra stuff such as the character profiles, the scene selection so you can jump to different sections of the movie, and most of all for some of the true hardcore fans, an interview by Monkey Punch, the creator of the show.

I have to admit that this was indeed one of the best anime movies I've seen. Lupin and the gang goes to the country of Zufu in hope of finding a secret treasure. As he is there, old pops is there too to track him down as the detective works hand in hand with Commander Headhunter and his crew. After a while old pops does not like the way Headhunter works and vice versa. The cops tried to arrest old pops but their attempts failed. Fujiko also was trying to find the secret treasure as he aids Headhunter's "daughter" who isn't really his daughter but the daughter of the old ruler that he killed. The old ruler told Headhunter that his daughter knows the secret to the treasure so Headhunter wouldn't kill her but in truth, she doesn't know. Fujiko hijacks the information and data from Headhunter's computer and aids Lupin and his crew to find the treasure. Then a weird mix of events occur as something who was assumed to be killed two years ago came back--however when you watch the movie, you'll find out what this is really about.

They enter "Drifting Island" in hope of finding the treasure there but the island seems to be alive! It turns out that it uses a nano technology that is so complicated, only the old ruler knew how to deactivate the security system. What was amazing was that in the end, all of what they were looking for was right before their very eyes. If you don't want to get spoiled, don't read pass this part but anyways... the nano technology used as the security system is the secret treasure all this time! This nano technology is no other than gold at an atomic level! Once Fujiko shuts down this system, all of this turns to gold. This was a very shocking turn of events and it is events like these that makes this movie seem so great.

Towards the end, Headhunter returned once Lupin activates the nano security system again! However, they were all ready as they shot and with one final blow, a sword was cut right through him. He immediately turned to gold! If you want to find out how this strange turn of events happened, you should definitely purchase this DVD! Everything was excellent in this movie except the quality of the video. The main reason the quality is degraded is because it's such an old movie and quality of the video is a big thing, but if the quality was great, it would have definitely been a 5 out of 5!

Comments:
It amazes me the fact that this movie is so old and yet when you watch it, you get the same good ole feeling you get in a current anime movie. The Monkey Punch interview was pretty boring unless you actually care about who created the show. For me as long as the shows there, it doesn't matter who created it.
