Review
Honestly speaking, this is the first complete saga of Dragon Ball that I've seen so I can't truly compare it with the other sagas of Dragon Ball. However, I have seen all the episodes of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT. It is fun to watch as the warriors progress and get stronger but it was at first boring for me to have seen Super Saiyan 4's and now I'm watching Goku as a little kid, with not even a Kaioken! I thought it was going to be boring but I was in for a deep surprise. Dragon Ball, the Tien Shinhan Saga was an amazing saga with Tien, Goku, Krillin and many others competing for the World Martial Arts Tournament.

The construction of the DVDs were quite clever--all 18 episodes from the whole Tien Shinhan Saga were made into two DVDs that came in a single DVD case. This offers a very convenient way of having the Dragon Ball Tien Shinhan saga. Basically the portability of this saga is the plus side. However, on the contrary, because of this compression of 18 episodes in 2 DVDs, some of the quality in the frames and audio were lost. Unlike most DVDs, this set does not have a 5.1 surround sound to it. My best guess is that when they released this originally, 5.1 surround sound did not exist commonly among the average citizen yet. In addition, I noticed a small decline in DVD quality. This DVD runs for a whopping six hours so if you are going to watch it, have a lot of food and popcorn ready.

Unlike Dragon Ball Z, there was definitely a storyline to the Tien Shinhan saga. The sequences of events that took place are excellent. The plot was planned out pretty well, with the fight between Goku and Tien as the climax of the saga. One of the major pluses of this DVD, as recognized by many other fans too is the fact that the subtitling was really good and the background music was more traditional and fitting. The setting takes place during the 22nd World Martial Arts tournament, which is Goku's second, and the place is at the tournament ring, at the hotels and at the shops and restaurants there. Basically the main objective was the Crane school wanting to beat the Turtle school and vice versa. At the end, the Crane school won with Tien Shinhan taking home the price with the help of luck. The only flaw was at the very end, they released a second peak of climax where Krillin was killed. True, this foreshadows the upcoming saga but for those people who isn't get the next saga (I'll probably get it), it gives them the impression of "what happened??" and it won't feel complete.

Dragon Ball was made intended for little kids to teens, however, because of America's strict parental guidance and etc, it is stated to be for kids ages 13 and up because there are a lot of perverted scenes, surrounding Master Roshi and his interests. I personally believe they should cut back on this type of humor and preferably add more PG-rated humor. Also, because of the violent nature of Dragon Ball, I do not recommend it for little kids. However, overall, this is a really nice saga, but with a few flaws here.

Comments:
This is a very convenience 2 disc DVD because instead of having to keep several DVD boxes for one saga of Dragon Ball, you just need to keep one box and it's a whole saga, 18 whole episodes!
